The term “Deerfield Valley” represents an area within the Green mountains spanning 10 towns in Southern Vermont from the Massachusetts border to Mount Snow. Regionally the Deerfield Valley is equidistant from the Northeast’s Major Metropolitan areas. Boston, Montreal and New York City are all within a few hours drive. For those seeking a quicker route, the Deerfield Valley Airport in Dover is just minutes from all of our properties.

WILMINGTON

Wilmington is the home of Haystack Mountain and our beloved Hermitage Club. The mountainous landscape affords boating on lake Whitingham, lots of hiking trails, mountain biking, championship golf, fishing, and hunting. Downtown Wilmington is the quintessential Vermont village with quaint shops, restaurants and old-world charm. In 1751 the town was chartered by Benning Wentworth, Governor of New Hampshire—interestingly, the town charter predates the state’s acceptance to the Union by 40 years. Over 250 years later Wilmington is an alluring tourism center in the heart of the Deerfield Valley.

The downtown center offers easy walking between restaurants and shops like the famous Dot’s Restaurant, art galleries and the 1836 Country Store. Directly across Route 9, in front of the Vermont House, is one of the most unique and historical buildings in town—Memorial Hall. Memorial hall is one of the most significant architectural buildings in the state and was designed by the firm McKim, Mead and White at the turn of the 20th century. McKim, Mead and White were also responsible for redesigning the East and West wings of the White House, the Boston Public Library and the main campus of Columbia University among others. The acoustically brilliant Memorial Hall is still in use to this day.

WEST DOVER

Like Wilmington, West Dover is home to another of Vermont’s definitive ski resorts: Mt. Snow. Mt. Snow has become one of the most popular ski destinations on the East coast. The entire resort spans several faces and includes the East Coast’s first all park mountain face, Carinthia, which has become a freestyle and action sports hub within the snowsports industry. With 589 skiable acres, 85 trails and 20 lifts, Mt. Snow offers something for everyone during the winter months. During the summer, the mountain has lift access downhill mountain biking, cross country mountain biking and an event packed schedule including concerts, festivals and fairs.

Throughout the year visitors to West Dover enjoy the boutique shops, movie theater, restaurants and resort getaways. Our own Snow Goose Inn and Inn at Sawmill Farm are two of the towns finest accommodations. Both properties have been recently renovated and include signature Hermitage updates with attention to detail and luxury amenities. At the Inn at Sawmill Farm guest revel in the fine, authentic Italian cuisine of Piacenza.

The Deerfield Valley Airport (4V8) is also located within West Dover and serves the entire Deerfield Valley. To learn more about the airport, please visit their website.
